what is snakeyattack?
Starting as a spam Instagram account, or at the time more well-known as a “finsta,” I had one goal with snakeyattack: to post whatever I wanted. I was fourteen; it was 2021, and the place where the majority of 14-year-olds were congregated was Snapchat. Due to no fault but my own, my Snapchat had become so inflated with randos I didn’t really know; I had something like 500+ notifications a day that I was not responding to, I kept losing the conversations I was actually having with my friends, and the last thing I was really using, my private story, felt too overpopulated to continue posting the things I actually wanted to share. I had hit my limit with the mess that my Snapchat had become and came to the decision to just move everything I really wanted to share to a private Instagram account where I could be more careful with who I allowed access to me.
Since then, I’ve run that Instagram account like the navy, accumulating eighty-nine loyal followers and 271 posts catered to literally no one but myself. While it sounds a little selfish, I was finally sharing the parts of my life that I wanted my dearest friends to see without insecurity. From the music I was listening to on a daily basis to photos from my weekend, people were keeping up with me. The best part of this all being through Instagram, though, was that my friends were actually responding to my life. I have become a bit of a micro (super micro) celebrity to my own little following, or at least those that cared, and I’ve really enjoyed all five years of it.
If all was seemingly perfect, being contained to my finsta, then why the need for the blog? Well, I just have a lot to say about things beyond my own life. Where snakey is like 80% me and 20% commentary, it does not reflect the reality of me having a lot to say about almost everything. I decided to start snakeyattack: blogged for your enjoyment to say the things that couldn’t fit into a caption or story alone… and then I forgot about it. If you go back in my posts, you will notice a large break between my first four posts and the rest of them. When I first debuted the blog, I created a strict schedule for myself: one blog post each week. This schedule proved hard to follow between classes, activities, and social life, and it very quickly became a chore to sit down and write about myself. It didn’t help that I started the blog at a time when I wasn’t particularly happy either; I was really trying to like my life again, and attempting to share parts about it felt exhausting. Also, it wasn’t supposed to just be another place for me to share more of myself, but instead where I could write down the different ideas that live in my head.
A year after originally starting the blog, I made the decision to renew my ownership over the URL and promised to myself that I would somehow find a way to use the website before I had to pay again. That decision is how we get to the current version of snakeyattack: blogged for your enjoyment! The design is slightly more refined, there are more pages beyond just the blog posts (like this about page!), and most importantly, the content is what I actually want it to be. I have become really interested in pop culture analysis, particularly music reviews, so you’ll find that is mainly what I post now, but nothing is off the table. If I am struck with inspiration and I feel it is important to release to the world, I am going to post it. I am also open to suggestions! If, for whatever reason, you are interested in my opinion on a particular subject or album or event, I will definitely consider that and investigate to see if there’s anything I have to say on the topic. At the end of the day, this is one large writing exercise, and the more opportunities I get to review and analyze, I will be happy.
who is snakey?

snakey is the creator, writer, and curator of snakeyattack and related enterprises, also known as Layla Federoff. A native (Westchester) New Yorker, Layla has done many things during her twenty years of life, but her most meaningful pursuit is sharing her opinions. snakeyattack and all of its variations are part of an extended passion project to share her life with the people that are most interested. Beyond self-indulgent pop culture writings and shallow think pieces, Layla actually cares about the state and success of the world, going as far as to being a political science and economics double major at Colgate University and dreaming of spending her future career in public service of some kind (very possibly as president). She has a love for performing, and you may recognize her as “Tracy” from Bobcats Productions’ 2020 production of Hairspray, the 2x winner of Princess Cruise’s “Voice of the Ocean” karaoke competition, or the shortest member of Colgate’s improv comedy troupe, Charred Goosebeak. If this bio or anything else on the blog interests you, feel free to engage with more snakeyattack media by trying to follow the Instagram account, @snakeyattack, or when it is back on the air, listen to the official snakey radio show on WRCU 90.1 FM, snakeyattunes. As Layla always says, she loves her fans.
