spoiler: i didn’t go to the beach

Welcome back, Snakey Nation! We are officially in the post-Spring Break time frame, so I figured I could recap my spring break and we could reminisce on all the random things that I was up to last week. For reference, my break started at 1:10pm on Friday, March 14th and lasted until 2:30pm on Sunday, March 23rd. That means I had just under 10 days of break to make sus decisions, see special guests from Westchester, and feel the never-ever ending dread of being in trapped in my high school bedroom. Despite that seemingly negative list, spring break was definitely the most successful break so far since leaving for college, and I think that y’all will enjoy my recounting of break, so without further ado… enjoy!

3/14-3/15 • The Anna Days

My break started off strong with a special guest NOT from Westchester: ANNA HARRINGTON!!!! For those who do not know Anna, she is one of my most frequent features on snakey (she can be found heavily in the legally blinde highlight as well in recent posts). Anna drove back with me and my father as to save her from the seven hour bus ride to the city. We kicked off Anna’s short stay with a tour of the Mohegan Lake/Shrub Oak/Yorktown area, visiting all the major spots: Lakeland High School, the tennis courts, Sunnyside parking lot, Coco Farms, and other various lame locations. We then ate a classic Yorktown meal at Oscar’s (Italian food, durrr), where the waitress clocked that Anna was not from town. We then rallied the troops and met up with some classic characters: Travis, Cydney, Philip, and Seb. Anna got caught up on all the people we hate and the shitshow that is Lakeland Drama (no offense). The next morning, we went to JV Bagels for breakfast, and I then dropped her off at the Croton train station. Overall, the Anna days of break were successful, and she got the full home experience

3/16-3/19 • Making My Rounds

For the four days following Anna’s departure, I made my usual rounds. My mother came home on Sunday from her trip with her college friends, so I got to reunite with the Federmom. And then, 3/17, was the prophesized day: St. Patrick’s Day. Samantha and I had been planning for St. Patty’s for weeks, and we ended up just getting Wendy’s, watching Hamilton, and playing Hinge. But, in our books, that is a success. Tuesday (3/18) was my designated day with my mother; as some of you may recall, this was the day I ate Trader Joe’s kimchi, released the last blog post, and painted my nails. Tuesday morning, I decided I would paint my nails as the hungry hungry catepillar because that is cute. I went to CVS because I did not own a true red, and while walking out, a homeless man started yelling at me, “HEY MISSY!” I got so scared that I bolted to my car and hightailed it out of there; the whole drive home, my legs were vibrating. But I successfully made it home, painted my nails, and then went to Trader Joe’s with my mom. I specifically picked out kimchi, seaweed, chili oil, and soup dumplings from Trader Joe’s, and then went home and made a delicious lunch that I really wished was from H-Mart instead. I rounded out my “making my rounds” days with a Chili’s dinner on 3/19 with Adam, Cyd, and Phil. We discussed the usual topics and ate the usual things, but it was delicious.

3/20 • White Plains & The Melting Pot

While some may have vacationed in the Caribbean or taken a trip to Florida for Spring Break, my big outing was the Thursday trip to White Plains with Samantha and Clare. It should be noted that Sam and Clare had never met before this day. The three of us drove down at 2:00pm in the Feddy Whip to the Westchester mall, where we shopped for three hours. The first store we hit was Newbury comics where we bought random crap we probably didn’t need but our souls needed. I got a cassette of The Rise & Fall of a Midwest Princess for the Feddy Whip that sounds absolutely AMAZING over my 2006 sound system. We then went to Alter’d State, a store Sam nor Clare has been in. We discussed how it is the peak place of the rise of conservatism and how the smell was nauseating, but I did buy a denim dress there and it is very cute. Clare eventually came around to the vibe, but I think Sam is convinced I was trying to poison her with the southern baptist aesthetic… Our final big stop in the mall was Nordstrom. I was in desperate need of a dress for Glassapella and you’re usually bound to find something at Nordstrom. After a winded explanation for where I can find cocktail dresses from a sales associate, I finally found a dress I liked, AND it was on clearance so I got $40 off. Three hours later, it was finally time for the big event, The Melting Pot. For reference, the Melting Pot is a chain of fondue restaurants where the spaces are built like mazes and the lighting is as dim as possible. Sam, Clare, and I were stuck doing fondue for THREE FULL HOURS; we were doing our best to keep the experience concise, but our first mistake was ordering a meat course, and then our second mistake was choosing to grill the meat course. By the end of the meal, you would’ve thought I was drugged with how intelligible I was. A woman also walked in on Clare in the bathroom after she (Clare) proudly claimed there was no reason to use the lock in her stall. Three hours and $140 later, we finally left the Melting Pot, made our way out White Plains, and journeyed home.

3/21-3/23 • Tying Up Loose Ends

My final days of break were slow but impactful. On Friday, Phil and I took a short trip to the Peekskill waterfront where we enjoyed the sun, the intense winds, and the murky Hudson. I made Phil take some photos of me and they were okay, but he did get the free trial for some app so thank you king. My last day at home was a family day in which we watched the St. John’s game (RIP), got dinner together, and visited Yaya & Tampa. My big send off on Saturday night consisted of a visit from Travis, Adam, and Lara, in which we ate ice cream and talked about where everyone is going to college. Sunday morning, 3/23, I woke up and immediately got in the car to drive back upstate.

What comes next?

Break was a fun time but now we on trudge on towards summer. I hope you enjoyed by break recap, and if you feel so inclined, let me know. Send me your reviews, opinions, thoughts, whatever you so please. Also everyone keep suggesting topics; it is easier to write with a prompt than writing without one. I have a busy next couple of weeks so Snakey Nation will be fed. Stay well everyone and I hope no one falls too victim to allergy season.
